Did any cars come with a ZF manual gearbox in 1971 or 1972? I've looked and looked but all I found were ZF boxes for Broncos and Blazers of this vintage...
Edit: Found it! The model I had in mind is the ZF S5-18/3:

De Tomaso Pantera springs to mind. Dino's were ZF boxes too.

Beautiful that's the one... the one in the Ferrari Dino is the exact one I was looking for!

I can't speak for 71 or 72, but I know ZF did the Fiat 131 gearbox, starting in 74, IIRC.

Was it this one, by any chance?
It's a ZF 5-18/3, Wikipedia lists it as having been used in the Ferrari Dino, Fiat 130, Fiat 131 and several Opels. I'm almost sure this is the model I'm looking for. Interestingly enough, the 130 also used a ZF Quick ratio power steering unit, which might be yet another one of the parts I'm looking for.

Yup, it's a ZF S5-18/3, it's definitely the model I'm looking for. Picture for reference:

Looks similar, but without the shifter extension.

I'd probably need the extension though... it's for a somewhat larger car

I'm sure. The 131s only got the extension on the Abarth models in Europe. I'm not going through the hassle of getting one, but rather am relocating the shifter about 3 inches farther forward on my 124. I'm just getting rid of the center stack to take care of the fist into dash problem. :P
